Hi Walt,

It's very likely that the reason your route command is taking a very long
time to come back is because it's trying (unsuccessfully to do a reverse
DNS lookup -- A PTR record for the IP of your routes). The next time it
hangs, try to run it with 'route -n' instead and see if the problem goes
away.

I think ya'll are correct.  At least 3 
persons repelled er.... replied - THANKS.
I'll try the next time it does down, which in the
last week is frequently.  IF true, route -n,
it's a significant step to solving a very old
bug somewhere ( 10 years, at least )
