[Novalug] MTU settings

To sync with Verizon's servers I've had to set the WAN
interface on my router to an MTU of 1472 (was 1500).
All other devices on the LAN are configured with an
MTU of 1500.

Would there be any effects, positive or negative, from
setting all my systems interfaces to match the 1472 MTU
of the internet side of the router?

My guesses are:

internet downloads, no effect as smaller packets are
going to larger receptacles.

internet uploads, possible benefit as large packets will
not have to be split into two packets by the router.

local lan traffic, tiny negative effect on large transfers
as more packets are required.

Thanks for any insights,
Jon
