[Novalug] Recommendation(s) sought for LAN traffic monitoring/identification

All,

A router/switch sits on my desk. It's connected upstream to the house
router, and downstream to 3 PCs which sit on my desk. The router/switch
front-panel lights indicating traffic blink constantly, even when the PCs
are turned off (but still plugged into power, aka "standby mode"). My
guess is that something upstream from my desk is broadcasting (or whatever
the correct term is) to and through this router/switch and pestering my
desk boxen.

I'd like to install some software onto one of my desk PCs that would
scan/monitor/wotever such traffic and give to me the ip addy and port
number of such traffic, or enough info to id the pest. A byte-count would
also be very nice, to id the "worst offender".

Any suggestions for an Ubuntu machine?

Ed James
