[Novalug] Editing the BIOS

Also given the fact that when I visited his place, it looks like the
printer he has uses a binary blob firmware from HP.com that he has
downloaded, but I have a feeling that a bad USB cable might be compounding
the problem.

Unfortunately, I'm not in the position to help him very much, but if he
were to get another printer, possibly a used HP LaserJet that doesn't
require any special firmware, it should work like a champ.

But again, the username will make NO DIFFERENCE on email, print, or
anything beyond controlling what user is logged into the computer. The
username of the home computer does NOT have to match the email address you
use, even if you're using a client such as Thunderbird or Evolution (I
prefer Evolution, but that's just me).

" ' With the first link, the chain is forged. The first speech censured,
the first thought forbidden, the first freedom denied, chains us all
irrevocably.' Those words were uttered by Judge Aaron Satie as wisdom and
warning... The first time any man's freedom is trodden on we’re all
damaged." - Jean-Luc Picard, quoting Judge Aaron Satie, Star Trek: TNG
episode "The Drumhead"
