As a long-time Fedora user (and former Fedora Project Leader), I'm
obviously biased, but I don't think it's really that difficult to make the
transition.

Not really going away, just getting transitioned/redirected to use
systemd. The systemd equivalent is "systemctl restart $daemon.service",
where tab completion really comes in handy. You should be able to continue
to use the "service $daemon restart" syntax, and it'll redirect to the
systemctl command.

Not completely gone... Fedora has just moved to using firewalld by
default. You can still turn off firewalld and use iptables to your heart's
content.
