[Novalug] Network monitoring - personal experience please!

I'd point you at comparing Nagios with Icinga, a fork.

I use Icinga for uptime and telling me when a network segment falls
over, but Munin for telling me trends on load, disk i/o, memory use.
Both monitoring progs require a local process, NRPE for Icinga and
Munin-node for Munin.

But I'd second using what you know.
