I think the problem here is that you want to do something very simplistic
but it is a complicated underlying process.

While it is overkill as a whole for what you want to do, I think OwnCloud
is the best option for an out of the box solution. In addition to the
simple file sync aspect, it also allows easy expansion to bring your photo
sharing, calendaring, and other things in house. It supports all the
platforms you asked about. I know that since I've been using OwnCloud,
Dropbox, and similar solutions I've found more uses for keeping files in
sync across devices rather than grabbing the latest from a central server
manually and uploading after changes are made.

The other option is to script something up that works on all the platforms
just to exchange your txt files.
