It's fun to use. Not a few people have said that they enjoy
programming in Python, as opposed to having to program in it.

It's a language which makes it possible to write very complex and
powerful applications relatively fast. I was amazed at how easy it
was to write multithreaded applications - my first 'real' Python
project was a GUI for my EEG, and I got it working without a lot of
trouble.

When you're learning Python, it's possible to get immediately useful
output to your work. You can get practical tasks accomplished fairly
rapidly.

It's unusually portable across implementations.

Also, try this:

[drwho@windbringer ~]$ python2
Python 2.7.5 (default, May 12 2013, 12:00:47)
[GCC 4.8.0 20130502 (prerelease)] on linux2
