[Novalug] Proper way to get Linux kernel patches?

I'm trying to use the Linux backports (was compat-wireless) with an older kernel that's on my Nokia N9 from here:

http://wireless.kernel.org/en/users/Drivers/wl12xx#Notes_about_using_compat-wireless_on_older_kernels

Some of the instructions say to apply certain patches for kernels older than 2.6.36. My kernel version is 2.6.32 with a few patches from Nokia. Some of the patches to apply are referred to by name and some by some patch id.

For example:
SDIO runtime PM support - here
workqueue: flush_delayed_work: keep the original workqueue for re-queueing (47dd5b from Linus' tree)

So I have two questions:
1. When I see "SDIO runtime PM support", how do I find the patch for this properly? I see this links to an email posted to the kernel mailing list, but surely the mailing list is triage for real patches, no? Where's the final patch submitted and how do I get it from the real source tree?
2. The second example says to get the patch by some id from Linus' source tree. In this case 47dd5b. What does 47dd5b mean? I assume this is similar to a commit #? How would I go about locating, downloading, and applying 47dd5b?

Thanks,
  Brandon
