I've been running Arch Linux (32-bit and 64-bit versions) for a couple
of years now (laptops and servers). It's been as featureful in my
experience as Gentoo was without the hassle (like fighting with USE
flags). In my experience the packages' default compilation options
have been sane (haven't had to recompile anything since I started with
it three years ago), and the package collection has been about as
large as Gentoo (no scientific comparison, just my weird use cases)
and mostly aces. I have to go to AUR once in a while for stuff that
isn't in the repos yet but that's a simple procedure.

I recommend checking the Arch Wiki just in case, but mostly you won't
have to worry about it.

You will have to run a `pacman -Syu` about once every six months to
keep up with Arch's infrastructure code but that's about it. Prudent
sysadmins are going to want to run it more often than that.
