Iphone is what I have now, and it's an amazing and complicated little
computer.

I'm from a linux background and only recently in the past years went to Mac.
The Iphone works smoothly most of the time.

Only, a couple of weeks ago, my Imac G5 died-- it was the capacitors
issues--a bad batch that tends to explode eventually. First time I have
doubted mac hardware in a long while.
Our major crisis was that my husband who backed his Iphone up on my Imac,
found that when he moved his Iphone over to his new Dell Windows laptop, he
lost all of his Iphone Contacts information. I've been trying to find a way
to access his contacts on the backup mac drive, and having some difficulty,
it's a db, maybe sqlite? not a text file. We'd be happy if I could just
print out the info he lost. That's turning out to be not so easy.

I don't know anything about Android. Teach me why, as a Linux lover, I
should love Android over Iphone?
Tamara
