That's a matter of opinion.  Personally speaking, VirtualBox works for
me right now.  When it becomes a problem or a liability I'll change to KVM.

Doing a bit of searching for information on KVM and not Xen, it appears
that OpenBSD (which I do a lot of server prototyping with) will boot
(and recently, at that), so I will consider it.  Maybe I'll convert that
ESXi box in my lab (which I haven't been using much lately) into a KVM
box and see what I can get working.

Even laptops.  I'm pretty sure Windbringer's CPU supports it.
