Amen, brother.  I had a client ask for a Kubuntu build for one of his interns.  Navigating KDE has become as abstract and obtuse as a new version of Windows with all the preference setting shuffled about.  I had problems just finding a terminal in the menus, it turned out to be faster to search for it.  The intern -- an english major -- had it even worse.

We finally got the desktop to usable with a one line fix: apt-get install gnome-desktop-environment.
