This drive says it has a normal SATA II interface.

I would definitely be considering the possibility that this drive is DOA. The drive *shouldn't* have anything to do with any USB or PS/2 issues unless it's just corrupting the installs. You could try updating the drive's firmware (http://www.ocztechnology.com/ssd_tools/OCZ_Vertex_2,_Vertex_LE,_Agility_2/). If that doesn't work I would try to find a diagnostics utility from the manufacturer and determine if the drive is actually healthy.
