What is the motivation. There is the concept of the Demarc(ation Point).
Everything on My Side belongs to Me and Everything on Their Side belongs
to Them. So why not put your router behind theirs?
I live in MD too, so I have Comcast, and they call their new "cable
modem" box an EMTA, which does Internet, Phone, and TV.
The EMTA connects to my internal Linksys Wireless Router via an Ethernet
cable.
The only reason I'd want their box in front of mine is if the EMTA did
port filtering there, but I doubt that is the case.
