[Novalug] Autocad file viewer (dwg)

I think we all agree this is not a simple answer. Glad to see that your
company finds that the Express version works well. It really all depends on
what you are using in AutoCAD. And definitely great to hear that you're
company standardizes on a version. I know the IntelliCAD offering forced
AutoDesk to start taking long-term/backward compatibility seriously in more
recent versions (much like Microsoft with Office 12, 2007/2008 as a result
of OASIS OpenOffice and ISO ODF).

BTW, has your company looked at BricsCAD to save money, and possibly
for compatibility with older AutoLisp packages? As I mentioned, I'm all for
supporting proprietary efforts that deliver value, and BricSys continues to
innovate. Although their price has almost doubled from the $250 I paid for
the classic version years ago, they do ship more and more support in the
product -- including DWF and SVG export/import. They are really
dedicated to standards as much as possible, winning buyers on the merits
of their features, not lock-in.

my company is cheap, so if full Volo View costs money, then i'm sure
they use the express version. your commentary makes me VERY glad that
my position here is "designer" instead of "management" or "computer
guy". i get full AutoCAD, which just works (for me).

i SUPER agree with the PDF suggestion. that's all we ever send out
(except when bound dwgs are requested, in which case they are always
saved as v2000, to ensure compatibility (half our small office has
pre-2007 AutoCAD.)).
