[Novalug] Linux here; linux there; linux everywhere ....

I would argue "insulting" or at least "FUD." There's nothing worse than
an appeasing Windows-centric outlet. Again, 20th century -- literally.
Anyone who has been around everything from the DARPA challenge
to common embedded devices (remember, consumer devices don't
make up the majority of those) knows Linux has been the staple for
the last dozen years.

I'll respect Sunbelt Software though. Sunbelt is probably the most
independent clearing house of tools for Windows enterprises, and
really cuts into various areas Microsoft and core (and very profitable
) Microsoft partners leave unaddressed. A lot of other organizations
are more direct partners with their own software and other tools, and
there's always that bias and effect. Sunbelt is more independent.

A good decade ago, Sunbelt did a "truth about Linux" survey. It was
purposely designed to dispell this alleged myth of Linux adoption in
major enterprises. It hit Slashdot and they were /.'d after that. It would
have been easy for Sunbelt to sit back and claim the /. effect killed any
ability to get good results, especially if they were unfavorable even
before the /. effect. But Sunbelt didn't.

They started getting hit hard after the first 25K results. So they took
only the first 15K entries, basically where they decided it was only
their newsletter and other subscribers responding. The results really
knocked Sunbelt back -- especially when they noted some very
specific, large enterprise respondents, several of which they verified
randomly by contacting them. And from then on, you never heard any
derogatory about Linux and open source again in their newsletter
(only the occasional advertisements that claimed something about
Windows against Linux, but clearly paid for).
