I opened my Gateway P-7811FX to discover I have two (2),
full size mini-PCIe slots. I guess they really make these 17"
notebooks expandable.

The only odd thing is that while there is clearly room for two
(2) full size mini-PCIe slots, they put mounts on the 2nd one
for only a half-size.

I guess I need to find a half-size WLAN card for mounting on
the 2nd slot, and then I can put the SSD in the first slot with
the full size mount.

In any case, it looks like my "kill switch" is bad, and not the
existing mini-PCIe. I just tried another mini-PCIe and Network
Manager is reporting the kernel has it in "kill" ("disabled") mode
as well.

I'm wondering if there is a software override?

I'm going to boot with this new mini-PCIe WLAN card into Vista
to confirm, but I assume just like the original, Vista will say the
same thing. Although I'm sure Vista will crap a brick because
it's a 5350AGN, not a 5100AGN like the original.

One of the few reasons I leave Vista around is to test this
stuff to be sure, but sometimes it's not worth the bother.
Honestly.
