[Novalug] How to find hardware device access point

Anything with the "SuperMulti" logo (disc on left, Super then Multi underneath
on the right) should have the licensed firmware.
  http://images.google.com/images?&q=%22SuperMulti+logo%22

This includes new HD DVD/BluRay combo drives with the same logo. The
SuperMulti has been so heavily licensed that they tend to be the cheapest
drives. LG was extremely liberal with licensing of the original GSA design
and firmware, so you can find a number of products with it.

NOTE: This should _not_ be confused with the "DVD Multi" logo (DVD, then
disc then Multi below it). Look for the "Super" in the name. It's more than just
-RAM support, but the very flexible support and -- commonly -- the highest
DVD-R record benchmark speeds to boot.

P.S. Of course the early-gen LG drives had the nice "feature" of an ATA
flush command wiping the firmware. But that was before the common GSA
line.

Bryan,
In short, can you discuss why you like LG based optical drives?

I"M JUST KIDDING....
Great write-up. I'll have to remember "LG is the way to go".
