[Novalug] Seagate HD Failures (WAS best hard disk setup for home file server?)

I am using 4, 1 TB WD (WD10EADS ) Green Drives on FreeNAS *0.69.1* Omnius
x64. They are running in a RAID 5 with UFS. Since it is a home NAS, I
allow the drives to spin down after 30 minutes if unused. This just means
that after a day of work, I need to wait a few seconds for spin up. Not
really an issue for me.

I use an older 160GB Seagate as the system drive.

S.M.A.R.T is enabled with scheduled checks and alerting. This setup has
been working quite well for me since about April of this year.

The iTunes server gets a little flaky on me after a couple days, so
unfortunately I have implemented a scheduled reboot each day which is
currently a work around for the issue. I have not had time to debug and
research a full resolution.
