It seems that it's not doing that now, at least not anymore.
The deceitful method and results of this Firefox extension
have irked the folks at Mozilla who make Firefox, and could
easily be considered a violation of Mozilla's expressed written
standards:
     https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/pages/policy
especially items such as
   * "Is the add-on clearly and accurately described?"
   * "Are all privacy and security concerns clearly spelled out?"
   * "Do the add-on and its author both treat the user respectfully?"

Mozilla is even considering a new standard to deal with issues
of this kind in the future:
     http://blog.mozilla.com/addons/2009/05/01/no-surprises

For now, it seems that the offensive code has been backed out.
