If wireless already works out of the box then all you should have to do is plug your computer in to your linksys router. Are you trying to get it to work by plugging the computer directly into the westell modem?

Subject: [Novalug] Verizon DSL and Ubuntu with Westell modem

Hello,

What do I have to do to make my Verizon DSL connection work with
Ubuntu? Here's my setup:

I have an ethernet cable from the Westell modem to my computer and
another cable from the modem to a linksys router for wireless. I used
to have Fedora 4 on the computer connected directly to the Westell
modem. I liked this setup but unfortunately the upgrade to Ubuntu does
not seem to work here. Wireless works out-of-the-box but I'd like to
have the ethernet connection too.

I've read elsewhere that I have to change the configuration of the
modem from the PPOE interface. The instructions I've seen are awfully
complicated. Does anybody have the instructions for dummies?

TIA,
