[Novalug] Linux based web site designing software??

Greg,

I've tried several applications and keep falling back on jEdit. I edit
at the code level and prefer not to have a program that pretends to be
smart but creates bad code or is ill behaved. jEdit is well behaved and
there lotsa plugins available.

I recently tried Quanta Plus (QP), after looking at some of the other
packages recommended on this forum. It's not bad - but after it
mucked-up a file, making me loose a lot of work, I stopped - it just
didn't do the job. One advantage is to be able to edit in code or
WYSIWYG views but that didn't work very well for me. I just edit in
jEdit and switch to viewing in Firefox, with the "Web Developer" add-on.
This give me immediate feedback on poor code.

Sadly, in my view, nothing beats Dreamweaver's features, some of which
are emulated under QP, but that's a Winder$ program that's expensive. At
home, I exercise my mind with Linux apps and hope for more as time goes on.

If you decided to give QP a try and use Ubuntu, it's easy to install
from the Applications menu under Add/Remove.
