not for a second do i consider myself a database pro but i have been
working with mysql lately. i had forgotten how useful it can be to
setup a relatively simple database and query it. i'm not sure when
the last NOVALUG presentation on the subject was (maybe a year ago?)
but if there's interest in the subject i'm willing to do a
presentation whenever the next opening is (oct/nov?).

the agenda would include:
* what is MySQL?
* why is it becoming so popular?
* how to do a very quick setup
* got big ol'flat files you have to look at/use? put them in a
database! (examples of data)
* how to import some simple data (like a big ol'flat file)
* doing various useful queries
* using java/jdbc to talk to your database
* what is replication and why would you want (need really) to do it?

as usual, there will be people in the audience that will know quite a
bit more than i do so it would be more like a presentation/live-wiki
where people will add more informative stuff than the little tidbits
that i know.

if there's interest please reply to me and i'll count 'em up and
    if (count > 0)
        novalug.schedule.add("doug does an interpretive dance on mysql").
