[Novalug] dual install

Bonnie: I would be very careful about what you suggest: in Nautilus,
"turn-on" view-hidden-files (ctrl-H). There's a huge number of "dot"
files there. Some of them have content that relates to things like
profiles in Firefox, Thunderbird, etc.

Example problem: I recall recently that one version of Ubuntu was
sticking with Firefox 2.x while another had moved to 3.x. The former
used bookmarks.html while 3.x uses another scheme. I'd hazard a guess
that other parameters set for apps in "dot" files might be confabulated.

I wouldn't do it, especially since 8.10 is going places,
application-wise, that the "LTS" / 8.04 version is not.

More knowledgeables might dispute this so YMMV.

Is there a way to have a dual install of Ubuntu Hardy and Ubuntu Ibex on
your machine using two different partitions for root (or two different
subdirectories in /) and having only one home directory or would programs
be messed up by that setup?
