I'm pleased to announce the first Tech Session @ Red Hat. We've talked
about them before, and they're now *finally* coming to fruition.

TOPIC: Asterisk & VoIP
PRESENTER: Jared Smith
TIME: 10:00AM - 11:30AM-ish
DATE: Saturday, 16-FEB
LOCATION: 8260 Greensboro Drive, Suite 300, McLean (Tysons

<http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?searchtype=address&country=US&addtohistory=&searchtab=home&formtype=address&popflag=0&latitude=&longitude=&name=&phone=&level=&cat=&address=8260+Greensboro+Drive&city=McLean&state=VA&zipcode=22102>]

This Saturday, 16-FEB, Jared Smith will be talking about Asterisk/VoIP.
In addition to being a fellow NoVA LUG member, Jared co-authored the
O'Reilly "Asterisk: The Future of Telephony" book, which became the #5
best-selling technology book on Amazon in 2005. Jared has said that he
usually ends up talking for 60-90 minutes, then a Q&A/demo session at
the end. We do not have a set end time, so we can easily over as needed.

_*IMPORTANT NOTE:*_
Because of the limited room, please respond back to me (just responding
to this EMail is OK) indicating if you will be coming.
I'll also be picking up the tab for some food (pizza, doughnuts,
something) and need to know how much to get.

For those of you that may note be familiar with Asterisk, it is the
leading open source telephony engine. I've used it personally for a
PBX, and am aware of several companies using it for much more. I've
seen implementations of Asterisk as a conference bridge, IVR, voicemail,
etc.

A few quick links:
Asterisk:

This will be the first (of hopefully many) technical sessions to come.
The intent is to provide a smaller (~20-30 people) environment to
showcase linux based projects/apps that solve real-world problems.
Questions? Comments? Please reply to novalug-techsessions@calypso.tux.org

Also, Greg Pryzby was kind enough to setup a mailing list for these
sessions. If you're not a member already, I highly suggest joining the
novalug-techsessions mailing list @
http://calypso.tux.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/novalug-techsessions.
Future EMails will be going out through that list.
