thx. Actually What I get after chroot is
 > grub-install

grub> setup --stage2=/boot/grub/stage2 --force-lba (hd0,2) (hd0,5)
Error 21: Selected disk does not exist

This might be because /boot/grub/device.map holds
(hd0)   /dev/disk/by-id/ata-Hitachi ......

And of course /dev/disk does not exist in the chroot jail.

Kida like a catch 22

Do we have a grub specialist around ?
