from linux.com: "Three addictive pop-up console utilities"

i find myself fairly regularly floating an xterm for one reason or
another and recently stumbled across "yakuake" (link in above
article). it installed on my kubuntu
with 'sudo apt-get install yakuake'. when this is running and you
hit the F12 key, a terminal window opens down from the top of the
monitor. hit F12 again and it rolls back up. i find it easier than
hunting for the xterm to float or opening a new one. you can also
open up multiple screen sessions in the pulldown by hitting the '+' on
the left.
the linux.com article covers 2 other similar tools but this one worked
right out of the box for me.
i don't tend to use keyboard accelerators in general (another
indication of my old days with vt-100s/wyse/c-itoh terminals, btw, the
last good improvement in terminal technology was the green on black
screens in c-itohs). i'm guessing i need to start customizing my
typing environment a bit more...
