The mysql tutorial was going very well until I came to the part about
running a script via the browser.

i have apache running with:

sudo /etc/init.d/apache start

the first time I went through the tutorial and did this - before dinner
- the script executed from the Firefox browser.

I shut the computer off and had dinner. When I came back and started it
up again the script does not execute via firefox. instead firefox comes
up with a requestor window offering to download the script to disk or
open it in text editor.

"You have chosen to open random.cgi which is a: CGI script from
/usr/lib/cgi-bin"

here are the permissions for the directory: usr/lib/cgi-bin:

drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 2007-10-06 10:33 cgi-bin

and here are the permissions for the files withing /usr/lib/cgi-bin:

  -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 1030 2007-10-06 10:33 list2.cgi
  -rwxrwxr-x 1 root root 1030 2007-10-06 10:21 list.cgi
  -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1029 2007-10-06 10:20 list.cgi~
  -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 1011 2007-10-06 10:10 random.cgi
  -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1011 2007-10-06 09:16 random.cgi~

I was hoping to learn how to set up a mysql database to run on my website
but to debug everything locally before activating the mysql service at my
ihp.

i had problems a while back understanding how to do this and sort of gave
up but I thought I would try again.
