     I thought I heard before than one can minimize the amount of unused
space in the zipped drive image by filling up the free space with a file
containing all zeros.  Before Gzipping the drive, delete that file; the
zeros will still be there (though the filesystem's table of contents
states the space is available for use) and thus when GZip gets to that
area of the disk, it can maximally compress it.
