The ULTRA brand USB (ps/2 powered) enclosure works great with laptops,
FYI. They use a single USB connector that splits the connection into
usb mini and power.
It ain't 10 bucks, but it's still fairly inexpensive and I have had zero
issues with it on Linux, Windows, workstations and laptops.
