[Novalug] check printing software for linux?

I understand the point about the template. However,
the issue is the special fonts that are used to print
the routing number, account number, etc. at the bottom
of the check.

These fonts are called MICR fonts.

I have found a GNU project for the font and another
program called freecheck.

Wikipedia MICR led to:

http://sandeen.net/GnuMICR/
----> links to freecheck

I am interested in hearing if anybody has used *any*
FOSS solution without any issue? I may try the above
myself.

Also, regarding the address thing. Is it really
protecting anything by not putting the address on
there? I mean, if somebody wants to know something
about you, the address does not make that much a
difference, does it? How does this information get
used if it is on there? I was under the impression
that not having the address on there would make it
hard for my leasing office to know who it was writing
the check since I do not hand this over in person (i
feel more comfortable they know which unit # the check
is for than just knowing my name).

These are just questions, I am certainly not disputing
anybody's claims. Some links with resources would help
me here as I am not an expert.
