[Novalug] Welcome Back (PLEASE READ)

First, let me thank everyone for their hard work and the free service
they are providing.
However, I wonder why it took two full months to restore a few mailing
lists. This makes Linux look bad.
Now I know the servers have other things on them, but some of them are
easily recovered, such as Linux Distros. Actually, placing mainstream
distros here is probably a bad idea given that the bandwith is way
slower than what you can find on distrowatch and other major download
sites. A much better service would be an updated list of distros and
mirrors, a catalog if you will.
The critical data, the mailing list should have been backed up nightly.
And when I say backed up, I mean rsync'ed to another disk, possibly on
another host. Likewise, the OS disk should be backed up by cloning, not
mirroring, so that it is possible to simply shift a few cables, maybe
change the master/slave jumper (or the SCSI id), maybe edit /etc/fstab,
maybe regrub or relilo.
In other words, design the system for disaster recovery.
Clearly, it is too late to do anything about the old system, but I would
implore the caretakers (sounds like something from Star Trek, doesn't
it?) to build in a bit of redundancy into the current system.
I can volunteer to help if needed.
